A FILM MAG

Can you tell me what looks best? The superhero in front of the masthead (title) or behind?

magazine development

Here is the first stage of my magazine front cover. On it the main picture is for my film. At the bottom is advertising what’s inside, the picture is for the film SPLIT, which is the film trailer my friend Amy is doing for her courseworkhttp://amyloulynch.blogspot.com/.
I thought this would be a good idea to use this (with her permission), 1: to promote her one and 2: to show other genres and styles of film in the same magazine.

Where the superhero is at the top is going to be advertising another feature in the mag about the TOP 100 SUPERHERO FILMS. I will have it partly covering the title of the mag which I haven’t fully decided on but am open to any suggestions.

First Attempt

Well this is the first attempt at the trailer. I have once again got my brothers music on it. I decided to have only a little piece of the villain Doctor Richman at the end as a sort of reveal to leave the view wanting to see more to sort of add a bit of mystery to who he might be. Please comment and suggest anything that could improve it.

Doctor Richman

Here is a bit with Doctor Richman in it

What i noticed

I noticed that on a lot of these magazines, the main picture is a full close up shot of the characters face.

Also, they have a lot of shot with the main character walking towards the camera.

magazines

With the teaser trailer near completion and the poster also going well, I remembered about the magazine front cover. I have had thoughts on it but haven’t actually put anything up about it. Last year we looked at magazines for our coursework to make a new music mag. So I already know a lot about the conventions and layouts.

Here are just some of the examples of what sort of film mag I have looked at.

SPY

Here are more random bits of scene that will go into the final cut. It has on it some of my brothers music.

Going wrong

Just to show how sometimes things don’t always work, I have put here a frame where my hand got in the way. Luckily I managed to edit it out using paint.

Viral stuff

Here are more places I have put the hidden picture in as part of my viral marketing. I should have uploaded them ages ago but have been busy with other work. Also my computer has been really slow and just annoys me, so I have been avoiding going on it.

A Rather Nice Day on Vectis

Here is the animation I did containing the viral marketing for my trailer. It was shown in the deluxe screen 2 at cineworld in Newport on the Isle of Wight on march the 13th 2010 as part of the Minghella film festival.
In the end I won second prize for this film and I got to meet Duncan Kenworthy, the producer of such films as Four weddings and a funeral and Notting hill.
